Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a procedure used to treat infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth.

Issues with the nerve of the tooth can be as a result of dental decay, trauma and cracks or multiple treatments in the same tooth.

Procedure Steps:

Diagnosis

The dentist diagnoses the need for a root canal based on symptoms and x-rays.

Anesthesia

The affected tooth and surrounding area are numbed with local anesthesia.

Pulp Removal

An opening is made in the tooth to access and remove the infected or damaged pulp.

Cleaning and Shaping

The inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and shaped to prepare it for filling.

Filling

The cleaned and shaped root canals are filled with a biocompatible material, usually gutta-percha.

Sealing

A temporary or permanent filling is placed on top to seal the tooth.
Root canal treatment helps save a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted, allowing you to maintain a healthy, functional smile.
